I was beginning to get worried with today’s news on Katu TV about my check account in the bank of America and especially the money market in there.
Although no great sums by any means – it’s ‘all I got’.

Great article, it’s hard to imagine what life will be like if our bank has all of our money, and they go under.

There’s a few good articles at http://www.whybanksfail.com/?tag=fdic about bank failures. One of them (at the end, What happens when a bank fails?) goes into depth what happens when a bank fails, and what customers see.

It seems the FDIC tries to keep the banks operating “normally” in the case of a failure. So, for most of us, if our banks fail we’ll have no problem getting our money on the next business day.

This is a great article that is addressing what’s on a lot if not all of our minds. I know recently my wife and I have cashed a few more checks rather than deposited them as in the past (no huge amounts of course). The offshore comment is a good idea that I had not considered.

What’s in the back of our all our minds is…Would FDIC really be strong enough to cover all that money up to $100,000 or is it just a feel good sign that won’t be worth the paper it’s written on if they mess really hits the fan?????

Quite a crazy time we live in especially with the huge selloff this morning, the first business day after the Bailout Bill was signed. I am not surprised by it all but maybe the common American is startled and scared by this mornings events. My reccommendation: Put your money in a shoebox at home. You will lose anything! I garuntee it!

Most countries offer the exact same kind of protection to bank account holders.. here in Canada, everyone is protected up to $100,000 per account automatically.
