the section on “beauty” products and treatments fails to mention the purple elephant in the living room: what about the millions of dollars Women spend on cosmetic surgery and hair removal every year because they believe those who tell them that beauty does not occur naturally – it must be bought.

huge industries depend for their survival on their ability to convince Women of the inherent unattractiveness of every naturally-occurring Feminine trait. body hair? oh, You don’t want *that* – that’s unattractive! small breasts? oh, you don’t want *those* – they’re unattractive! got a curvy belly? it’s gorgeous and sexy and makes men want to get down on their knees and kiss it – but wait! cosmetic surgeons agree: that belly’s repulsive! uh-oh! you’d better get that taken care of. next they’ll be telling Women that vaginas are dirty and disgusting and need to be surgically removed and replaced with food processors. and you know what? Women will believe it.

A key difference in what men and women buy is that men spend more on assets (cars, audio, toys, etc.) while women spend more on consumables (grooming, clothing, pets, lottery, etc.) Of course there are plenty of overlapping areas as well, but the basic concept holds true. Selling to women is different from selling to men too.

Another cost discrepancy between men and women that makes me insane: The cost of dry cleaning and/or altering women’s clothes. Women often shell out double what men pay for dry cleaning.

We also pay more for health and car insurance and auto repairs. The most common form of overspending is paying too much for individual products.Women need to be smart about their purchases.

I’ve actually gone the extra step and researched products and have learned that some act as dual-agents (you can use them for multiple purposes)
For example, instead of shaving cream I use my Satinique shampoo as a shaving cream.
This way I don’t need to spend as much money and can save it for a latte

These stats are skewed because women do most of the shopping, even when they’re not buying for themselves. So women are buying pet food and treats for the family pets, toiletries for their husbands, and clothing for their kids.

I really don’t like the patronizing tone of this article, especially given that most of these tips could just as well apply to single men.

And yes, while fruits and vegetables are good for you, they won’t take the place of a good moisturizer.

It’s too bad advertisers and retailers know our weaknesses. I’m personally upset about the cost differences between male and female shaving cream, though I did find drug store generic shaving cream for women that costs $2.67 last week, and it was the same as the generic male kind.
