Unless I’m not understanding something, which is entirely possible, HASP wouldn’t help me. I can pay my monthly mortgage, but I would be unable to refinance. My mortgage is now approximately $8000 more than the appraised value of my home. It’s not really an issue as I had already planned to be here for years to come. I don’t have 20% in either equity or cash, so I doubt I could refi.

The good thing is that I expect to have paid down my mortgage so that I’ll be right-side up again in probably the next year, and also that property values will start rising again, maybe not as soon as we would all like, but they will be going back up again sometime.

It’s disconcerting, to say the least, to know that those of us who bought property we could afford, and have faithfully paid our mortgages on time are now in a situation we couldn’t have anticipated. I know I’m not alone, home values have fallen all over the country and thousands are upside down on our mortgages, but we will still be able to afford to keep our homes because we made sensible choices when when we became homeowners.

Unfortunately, we’ll fall between the cracks while greedy or stupid people people “enjoy” a government bailout.
