One of the man's chief talents is getting people to agree. Brokering consensus will be highlighted as the ultimate goal in policy-making (besides, obviously, good policy-making) because I believe he is well aware of the detriments of the type of politics where talk never ends and action never begins.

Huzzah Obama!

OK, To this end Obama has enlisted the help of Google’s Schmidt, Buffett, executives at Xerox, Time Warner, Hyatt Hotels, and financial executives from Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and TIAA-CREF. Additionally, he’s enlisted the help of two former Treasury Secretaries, 2 Fed Chairmen, a former Commerce Secretary, Fed Governor, and an SEC Chairman.

This is good, he's definitely trying. Unfortunately, these people simply won't agree on what to do. And the reason is simple, there is no "fix" for the economic crisis. There are only a series of very difficult trade-off decisions that will need to be made.

The economy in 2000 was simply unsustainable, no "fix" will get us back there. So at the end of the day, he's going to have a lot of very educated advice, but all of the reasonable advice is going to involve some hard cuts and a lot of angy people.

Let's hope that he can manage that.

Obama won because people want change. But the funny thing is that nothing will change. Or should I say it will change but mostly because everything has got to go through the process completly and not because Obama will do something very creative and new. He has not introduced anything new, he will use same people as Clinton and Bush used. If anything, Obama will turn US into a Socialist (interesting post at http://justmethinkingonline.blogspot.com/) country and then US will definitely lose its power.
by the process I mean:
1. financial markets need to regain confidence and will eventually go up
2. global stimulus will finally kick in: rate cuts, money pouring from governements...
3. troops will be withdrawn from Iraq
so on so forth, but like I said the process will have to complete itself

It looks like Obama has put together a real solid team of non-cronies. You've got Republican ideas, even a few Bush appointees in there. The stock market seems to be acting positively thus far to the actions Obama is taking, and perception is everything when you're down 40% for the year, I'll take whatever I can get, man.
