You are totally right, I never do too. You should always have your private email, work email is public to your company tech department, and they can do what ever they want with it.

My ex husband also lost his job at 591/2 and so the 401k was not tax advantage at all since it also went down with the stocks. Lately, I have been involved with investment grade insurance products, as an agent, and many families were spared the taxes that goes with theis IRA and 401k, with the Index strategy that I have for them at much better rate of return, beating last years results of thie 401k and stocks. At this late age, we have to be careful and not to forget to fill up our conservative retirement bucket first before we go for investments such as stocks.
PS. I like the look and feel of mint.com but wanted to see how and ordinary, middle income can benefit from it.those who do not use the credit card but wanted to save in many ways..

At the last job i worked, i learned the importance of the personal email, and i think its amazing what you can do with job search agents.

in 4 months i have received a great number of interviews both phone and in person with a small setup effort that came with submitting my information to monster.com and others. i have since found a great job in optical engineering that i really enjoy, but i also have the added security of many recruiters that know me, my field, and my work for any career changes in the future.

I would have to disagree with point #5 in this post though. if you store all of your financial and sensitive information online, it is very poor personal security to connect to free hotpots to check this information. it is far to easy for others to gather this data on an open line. even a public hotspot with ssl could be spoofed by someone with their own setup in the same area, negating all security you think you may have.

P.S. I love mint.

When using a free WiFi connection on an open network it is important to know that the data your transmit is most likely not secure. Because of this, you should avoid connecting to any Web site or service that requires password authentication that is not specifically securely protected using SSL, etc. This includes using FTP and email that does not requires an SSL connection. If you can connect to a VPN connection at a free WiFi hotspot, this will greatly improve your privacy. If you do not have access to a secured VPN, then you should limit your wireless usage to general Internet surfing and non-critical email accounts

You shouldn't do it in the first place, but if you find yourself transmitting sensitive data at a free hotspot (which will almost certainly be open to eavesdropping) one good and easy way to significantly improve your security is to use LogMeIn Hamachi's free VPN client https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp

A note on using free WIFI at libraries and other public service locations. If there's a parking spot or a comfortable bench right next to the building, you can usually use the free WIFI 24/7. I've done this when I've need online access during hours when the local library is closed.

did you write this for someone over 60? these tips are fine but should be common sense to pretty much everyone...and the career sites you list are sketchy at best...of course you shouldn't rely on such sites to find a job...how about personal networking...the list is like saying you need a drivers license if you want to drive...right? legally

great set of tips. But one thing about the wireless hotspots- if you use one at starbucks/panera/mcdonalds/etc be prepared to practice proper etiquette- don't use it during "lunch" or "dinner" hours (peak hours, when all the seats are taken up), be sure to buy something, and tip well!
these simple steps will make you a welcome guest at any establishment.

storing stuff online is a great idea! I use google docs to keep my most important documents online, so I can edit them with my desktop when I'm at home, my work computer on my breaks, and my laptop when I'm on the go!
