It should be noted that the LDS church has no paid clergy.

Also, the LDS church provides enormous amounts of charitable support all around the world. They're one of the first organizations on the scene anytime there's a natural disaster, with food, blankets, clothes, and medical supplies. And 100% of charitable donations made to the LDS church are distributed... nothing is retained for administrative costs.

The LDS Church has for-profit companies, that are taxed and contribute to individual workers and the governements under which they serve.

The Church of Jesus Christ is a non-profit organization, as most churches are, and use far more volunteer value than any money value or gain. Many cities and governments profit from the Church's member donations and funds, like our temples and churches across the globe that are purchased and then taxed.

That is interesting about the Roman Catholic Church being called the "Church of Christ". When did that start? In Chile everybody would call it the Apostolic Roman Catholic Church. And those were mostly Catholics.

As far as I knew, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the first church since Jesus to officially carry His name. I would like to know more of the history of the Catholic nomenclature.

Adam, are you concerned that the D was capitalized in Latter-day? I am thankful they used the complete name of the church. Thanks for the addition of information on agriculture. I enjoyed the tour of the 290,000 acre Deseret Ranch near Orlando, FL a few years ago.

There was a BRW report on charities in Australia: Catholic church tops the list and if considered a business (which it plainly is..) it'd be in the top 5 businesses in Australia.

http://blogs.theage.com.au/business/executivestyle/managementline/archives/brw2906p042-046.pdf

In 2005 it was 16 billion in revenue for the catholic church, uniting was 2.4 billion.

Tax free, completely un-reported and hidden from the tax office. Plus they get a tonne of money from the government for their schools (quite why we're funding private religious schools with federal public money I don't know). Other money for counselling services etc

Churches are a rort, they should be treated like any other business or else have to ensure that they are actually non-profit by really doing charitable work.

Similar to Adam (above), there is a need to correct the name of the "Roman" Catholic Church. The proper and "official" name of the Church is the "Church of Christ." The Church is also more properly called the "Catholic Church." The Roman adjective actually refers to the rite (Latin) of the Church and the fact that the See of Peter is in Rome. The Church does not officially refer to herself as the "Roman" Catholic Church.

It would be best to clarify these distinctions prior to posting items concerning the Church whose members do not all follow the Holy Liturgy of the Latin Rite yet remain in full communion with Rome.

You've got the incorrect name for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'd encourage you to correct it. Since the Church is so often misnamed, it has made a style guide available.

Other assets owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are listed at Wikipedia, such as AgReserves Incorporated (one of the largest nut producers in America).
