Christy it seems all creditcard companies are doing this. I had never had a rate increase in my life and now Chase has decided to change my fixed 8.99% and 7.99% APR to a variable one of 15.99%. They are a bunch of greedy bastards that do not care at all about us small time consumers. Reps are usually very pompus when talking to us on the phone. I have transfered my balance to another credit card that offers 0% APR for a year. I will never do business with Chase again due to the bad experiences I had. They will end up loosing more money in the process and a loyal customer. I wish more people would do that.

Have you heard of social lending. Prosper.com offers loans from other individuals not big greedy banks. I'd rather give my money to a personal investor than a faceles, unsensitive bank. Zopa.com is also availabe if u recide in the UK.

Try setting up an account with prosper.com they sometimes lend you money when other banks won't.

Can you do something in your spare time? like doing yard work for your neighbors? Can you sell stuff on your local swap meet? Can you turn your hobbies into sources of revenue? Can you get money from your family or friends? any of these things may help you.

Mint-- you rock! I had a Chase credit card, and had autopay set up. I had set up a second card, and assumed autopay would cover that as well. It didn't (had to set up separately) and I got hit with a late fee.

I called, and to no avail. They didn't waive the fee. I took your advice and emailed and, bam, late fee waived! Thanks.

I got my overdraft/late payment fees waived as well. Although when I did it I blamed the teller at the bank for depositing the funds into my wrong checking account, which was partially true, i had actually made the mistake.

Works for cell phones as well - just ask for the retention department. Works really well if you are out of contract.
