This is exactly my situation. My church looks then other way while we're dating; don't know what will happen when we move in together. Just the risk of long term disability is enough, but looking at taxes etc. over my lifetime marriage could cost a quarter million dollars. No.

Unfortunately, this article does not take into account God's blessing for doing what is right. Countless couples have found that getting married, having children, having more children :-), giving generously (even 10% or more), and living simply result in far more financial stability than doing what is practical.

You may not believe in God. But the fact is that He created everyone, and He created the "system" we all live in. So He knows what is best for us, and He can easily assist those who submit to Him. More than any government or insurance company ever could.

Sometimes the financial aid we receive from God is completely inexplicable outside of His blessings for doing what is right. I know a man who was about $2.4 Million in debt for real estate when the market crashed a few years back. His friends recommended bankruptcy, but he refused. Instead he got on his knees and begged God for wisdom and help. God lead him to basically double his giving (at church, etc.), which he simply could not afford to do.

He did it anyway.

WIthin months, he had buyers for 8 of the 9 properties he was trying to sell. Not only did he pay off all of his debts, but he had enough left over to pay off his whole 100% mortgage.

This may sound hard to believe, but I know it is true. Because it was me.

I pray that this nation will put aside what is "practical" and return to God's ways. It is the only chance for true prosperity for us as individuals and as a nation.

There was a time that the government was not in marriage. A time when vows were made in church or before God and friends. Wasn't it God who married Adam and Eve?

When the government runs every part of our lives the government ruins every part of our life. It is for this reason that my husband and I elected to have a marriage ceremony outside the United States. The legal system does not recognize our marriage and our marriage is controlled by our love, not by filing joint tax returns or lost benefits. If more couples put God and love into marriage instead of the government marriages might last longer because it would be a commitment from the heart. No license required.
