I agree with JG. Also, if I goof up and have a bank fee for some reason, I always call and ask for a courtesy waiver. They usually grant it if you are very courteous and a good customer.

I use my Jetblue Amex card for everything, pay it off in full every month so I don't get charged finance fees. It gives me points for Jetblue flights which I have used to visit family in Florida. The important thing is to setup notifications or auto-payments so you don't forget to pay on time.

I setup my bank account to pay the minimum and email me notifications that the bill has arrived. I set up my google calendar with alerts on the day the bill is due. You can also set up auto-pay on most CC sites to take payment from your bank account.

one simple way to find extra money is to recover unfair charges that have been levied on you - usually you can go back a number of years when making a claim

If you're looking to find hidden cash, read the "Richest Man in Babylon." This book will teach anyone how to set aside money regularly, no matter how little they are making, to use for whatever they desire. Of course, all of the tips in the above article are also great ideas as well.

RE: Frequent Flyer Miles

See Points.com

Rewards program balance tracker/aggregator that enables intra-program transfers as well as redemption options from a large number of retailers.

Amazon's transfer rates are extremely favorable, as you do not need to redeem at specific break points or for set dollar amounts, i.e. $25 or $50 gift certificates. You can literally redeem up the the mile, so, for example, you may end up with a gift certificate for $467. Gift codes are e-mailed immediately, as well, so no wait time.

Also, gift codes can be combined. I bought a 42" flat screen last year on Amazon with American Express and some airline miles combined.
