Me and my dad recently set up a magnet power generator our house. It was pretty easy and only took about 2 hours to set up. My dad said hes saving a lot now on the electricity bill for only 2 hours of work. the instructions to build one were pretty simple and easy to follow. I definitely recommend magnetizing your home, it's good for the environment (using less electricity) and saves you a lot of money on the bills.

Regarding the apartment renting tip: I recently found the website vrbo.com (Vacation Rentals By Owner), which lists all kinds of vacation apartments and homes in all kinds of locations that offer both short-term and longer-term rentals. Some require a minimum length of stay; some don't. Most are considerably cheaper than hotels, especially when you consider that with a kitchen or kitchenette, you can save money by eating in! So search the web for reputable vacation apartment rentals.

A few more:

Street Food
Sure, you're risking the potential of food poisoning, but street food can be very tasty, cultural, and above all, extremely cheap.

Walking
Walking to attractions is a healthier way to travel, saves the cost of a cab or transit, and allows you to see areas of the city you wouldn't have otherwise.

Don't always book in advance
In many countries, you can negotiate the price of accommodation, getting much better deals than you would by booking in advance.

Talk to people
A good value restaurant or bar? Don't rely on the hotel or hostel to give it to you, instead talk to other travellers, expats, and locals, who will tell you exactly where the best, cheapest food and drinks are

Eat Local
Want a burger in China? Prepare to pay up the gills for a mediocre piece of meat in a terrible bun. You travel to experience other cultures, why not do it with food as well? In addition, local food is almost always cheaper and much higher quality than any foreign items on the menu.

Take a night bus/train
The benefits to this are numerous! First, it is usually much cheaper than flying. Secondly, you avoid paying a nights accommodation. Thirdly, by travelling at night you avoid wasting an entire day either on a bus, or dealing with airport security procedures. Finally, it's a lot of fun and a great way to meet people. The night trains are very comfortable in many countries, including most of Europe, North America and China, and there are special night buses which have beds rather than seats that send people of all ages up and down countries like Vietnam.
