On the other hand, law enforcement is crappy there, so in practice there are less regulations. The tax burden is awful, though.

Decent article but Brazil has a lot of catching up to do compared to China. China is too big to ignore.

Thats true. Things are changing very fast here. We also have problems, indeed. Companies forecasts are incredible. God's hands over us. Please read II chronicles 7:14, then you'll understand.

Great post. Brazil will have more attention on it than ever now that it has been awarded the right to host the 2016 Olympics. Their economics are impressive, and they have a lot of potential. Looking forward to watching them grow on the global market.

Corruption here is incredibly high. Education is still far from being accessible to all society layers what means that, the country at some point will struggle with lack of qualified professionals. Public Health system sucks. Taxes are also extremely high - $500 billions on 2009 (50% of GDP) according to www.impostometro.com.br/ - all paid by us, citizens. Investments in infrastructure are also quite below what they should so, don't expect this to be the "new land of opportunity" as soon as corruption and impunity remain and federal gov keeps with this welfare system. It's all it does: takes from those who work and give it for free to the poorest to be reelected.

"Brazil is the country of the future, and it always will be" goes the old wag. What is most impressive about the recent improved performance of Brazil is that it is under a left leaning government (albeit continuing the reforms begun by a party of the center right). Brazil has avoided the wave of idiotic far-left populism that has swept across South America, giving hope that the country will continue to attack the problems and attitudes that have kept it poor for so long.

and btw, if the state did half of was supposed to do with the taxes i wouldnt have a problem with it. but the corruption runs wild and it all ends on poor politicians becoming multi milionaires all around.

and a quick info, you think interests on credit are high on your country? the average here is 15% a month.

all the wealth of this country is concentrated on a small %1 of the population.

taxes here are very, very high, the bourocracy to get anything started is astounding.

the guy interviewed probably cheats the "IRS" here, or pay no taxes at all, which is easy if your business is small enough.

the government payroll is so inflated that it resembles comunists countries, and the laws and rights of workers in the private business are so far of the scale that its very hard to keep everything legal and also makes it very hard to fire anyone.

most busineses bend the rules to avoid taxes, and plenty of times they avoid them altogheter.

our presidents popularity runs high amongs the lower classes (most?) but we are waiting to see the lack of grow and change of the past decade. if theres someone that got richer, are outside investors and banks that every year since lula was elected have been showing record profits.
