Bagging a Bargain

Even in the worst of economic downturns, cutting back on the necessities of life is not an option. But American consumers are giving up the organic bananas and microbrews and shopping less at high-end grocers such as Whole Foods and Bristol Farms and more at low-end grocers such as Food Lion and Food 4 Less. Our latest infographic is based on the aggregate data from over 1 million Mint.com users, a representative sampling of US consumers.

  1. We been watching the ads for local grocery stores and there are some great deals to be had if you’re paying attention and can stock up. Lots of good meat sales these days so we buy several pounds at a time and freeze it. We have been learning a lot from http://www.faithfulprovisions.com as the author of the site advises our to cut grocery bills by as much as 75%. I wish we did this years ago.

Truly horrid graphical presentation of information.

  3. chicagoandy

    Total disaster of an infographic.

  4. I agree with the above comments. Cut some of the attempted creativity and make this graphic a little more readable.

To all the people complaining about the layout, relax. What, exactly, were you going to do with the information that you needed it presented as clearly as possible? Nothing, except maybe sharing a tidbit of info at a cocktail party.

      I think they look good.

    • Matthew: Why would anyone look at a graph if they didn’t want data?

The “shopping bag volume as data” graph is really the worst. Is it scaling with volume? Height? Surface area? Who knows?
