$2,000 For Our Millionth User and a Friend

We’re just weeks away from signing up our millionth user and if that turns out to be you or your friend, there will be a $2,000 prize in it for both of you.

We expect to reach this milestone by March 18, our 18 month anniversary. In celebration, we’re going to pay off the credit card debt of that millionth user, up to $2,000*. There’s never been a better time to sign up for Mint.com

And if you’re already a Mint.com user, thanks. We couldn’t have gotten this far without your trust and support — our growth has been driven by the recommendations of our users, so we’ll also pay off the credit card debt of the person that recommended Mint.com to that lucky new user. So if you’ve told your friends about us in the past and they haven’t signed up yet, you may want to remind them to sign up soon. Feel free to send them this post or give ‘em a nudge.

In other news, we’re honored to say that Mint.com has been nominated for the 2009 SXSW People’s Choice Awards for excellence in web design. If you find Mint.com easy-to-use and easy-on-the-eye we’d love it if you’d cast your vote for us in the “CSS” category (a bit geeky but we take a lot of pride in our design). You can vote once a day and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony taking place on March 15.

*and if the millionth user (and/or that friend) are so minty that they have no credit card debt, we’ll open a new savings account with $2,000 or add it to an existing account for the millionth user and their friend.

How is this tracked? Will Mint.com ask the millionth user for the friend that referred them? Is there a user-unique referral link I should give out to people?

  2. This is great, congratulations! But what incentive is there for those of us who have learned to manage our money and have wisely chosen to live DEBT FREE (i.e. NO credit card debt!) ?!?!?

  3. It says if the millionth member and/or their friend (the person who recommends them) have no debt, they’ll open a $2000 savings for you or add the $2000 to your existing account.

  4. Hey, this is pretty cool. Who would turn down 2000 bucks? Anyway, I do have the same question as C Fohlin. Is there a way of tracking this or, how are you guys going to deliver on this?

And are you finding that you got a spike of sign ups since you announced this? or are you still waiting for it to spread out?

What personal finance has been lacking is adherence to the K.I.S.S. principle. We’re going to apply it (again) to this contest.

We’ll track who our millionth user is (to the second) and then just ask them (the old-fashioned way) if they heard about Mint.com from a friend. If they did, that friend also gets $2K.

Again, thanks for all of your support — and the trust you have placed in us. While we’re so proud to have reached this milestone with you, there is SO much more to come. Stay tuned for one of our most intriguing new features next month!

  6. Cool, I’m glad to hear that! it makes it casual and more personal I think. Anyway, I’ve told my friends about it on my site and e-mail. Good luck.

  7. Wow, that’s awesome, Mint! Too bad I’m already a user :)

  8. Why the deadlift, clean, squat, and jerk? ,

  9. Why can’t I enter my transactions daily. Without this future Mint.com does not meet my standards. Also, “Mint” is one week behind on balance updates. Are these problems being addressed? Or, am I doing something wrong?
