Joel
You don’t have to do anything to update to the new version. It’s a web-app, so whenever you log-in you see whatever the latest version is that Mint has put on their servers.
Is there a way to add a mortgage account info? Currently, my credit union shows Checking, Savings and the Mortgage account info, but it’s not being pulled into Mint. Is there anything I can do to make this happen? I tried to add the account again to see if Mint would pick up the loan info but didn’t work. Please advise. thanks
I have the same problem.
How can we manually add numbers for an account Mint cannot link to?
(I have a mortgage and a savings plan like this)
I have my mortgage through a FCU…I added the account by using the “bank loan” category after trying all the others.
I have a similar problem. I have a mortgage with Chase and a credit card with Chase. When i login to Chase, i see both of these accounts, but Mint is only pulling over the Credit Card. When i tried to have it pull over the mortgage loan, it says it cannot find it.
I also have a bank that does not work with Mint. How can i get Mint to contact my bank so my bank will work with mint??
For months I had trouble adding a home equity line of credit from WaMu, now Chase. It wasn’t under consumer or business or mortgage or loans. Here is what the Mint rep told me to do, and I was finally able to import the acct. Yay. Trying something similar by using the SEARCH box may help you with other types of acct’s from other banks as well.
Quote:
Please try to add your account using this option with Mint.com to see if it works: Chase Home Finance Center
Type in “chase.com” ON OUR SEARCH FORM to see the complete list of supported accounts under Chase Bank. Choose the right option (Checking and Savings, Credit Card, Investment and Loans) for your bank, choosing the wrong option will result in an error. Please add the account accordingly.
Is there any technical support available if I’m having trouble getting started?
Thank you for the great app, I’m happy to have it. It’s so interesting that individuals complain so much about a freebie but when they get screwed bigtime on a purchased item have nothing to say.
I have tried adding my prosper.com account, but I keep getting an error stating that I need to clear any splash pages that come up, but I don’t get any splash pages. Does anyone know what they are talking about, or how I can fix this?
I’ve only been using mint.com since last night, but so far I’ve been quite impressed. I was using Microsoft Money for the past dozen or more years.
As for your “splash page” issue, I used to have a similar problem with MS Money when connecting to things like a brokerage account. Open a separate browser window and go to your brokerage account. In my case, it would invariably be that my brokerage was throwing a pop-up window as soon as I’d log in to inform me the latest monthly statement was now due.
In an ideal world, you should be able to set your preferences at the brokerage’s website to tell them you don’t want those reminders popping up. But if they made their site too friendly to apps like mint.com, MS Money, and a host of others then no one would sign on to the brokerage’s web site. So this is their subtle little way on insuring you visit their site at least once a month.
I hope that helps!
This website is great to track spending. i was amazed on how much I was spending at McDonalds in a month.
you should rent “Supersize Me”. You will not eat there again.
Is there a way to add a mortgage account info? Currently, my Bank of America shows Checking, Savings, but the mortgage account it’s not being pulled into Mint. Is there anything I can do to make this happen? I tried to add the account again to see if Mint would pick up the loan info but didn’t work. Please advise. thanks
You need to type “Bank of America Mortgage”. If you have a credit card, you need to type “Bank of America Credit Card”. You still use the same logon information you use to sign on to BOA online banking. I just joined and added Bank Of America Checking, Credit Card and Mortgage (all with BOA…typed in the same info I would see from my portfolio).
I joined Mint because I MAY be switching to Chase, but will see how Mint works out after a couple of days. I was surprised to learn I could add Lending Club and Prosper (lending and loan, respectively) to both Mint and My Portfolio. Good deal. LC’s website is a PITA.
I cannot seem to be able to have my mortgage picked up by Mint. It captures my checking account but not my mortgage account info. I have this mortgage with Bank of America.
Thanks,
mint.com is a fantastic program that I have used for almost a year now. I particularly like the once a week report that you send me. Following is an added feature to your program that I feel would make it even better.
Every week I save your weekly reports in a special file. Then I save the weekly info in an Excel worksheet. Now after 10 months of saved data, I can track how my net worth has changed over time. Is it more or less than it was 3, 6 or 9 months ago. How has my cash position vs. investments changed over a time period. How have my individual stocks fared over a certain period vs. my mutual funds. Have my credit card debts been rising or falling over time. It would be wonderful if mint.com could incorporate this data in the program, so that I would not have to input it in my Excel spreadsheet every week.

Is it possible to show only the highest level category while initially viewing the budget list? If the highest level has subcategories defined in any of the transactions, that category should show a “+” to indicate the ability to drill down for a more detailed look at the subcategories. As an example, under “Food and Dining” there is “Alcohol”, “Coffee Shops”, “Fast Food”, ect. (one can even add more) instead of showing budget list for every subcategory. Just show the following:
+ Food and Dining
If I want to see a breakdown of my spending in that category I would just click on the + icon.
More of what I want from mint, to actually make proper use of all these newly released features is the option to TURN OFF SIMPLIFICATION OF THE TRANSACTION DESCRIPTIONS! What good are ANY of these transactions when they are not correctly described and categorized? Until you have a accuracy rate better than 50% you should give us the option to turn off your simplification. It doesn’t work. And it takes MORE time to fix transaction descriptions than it does to fix a category; does that make since? Its easier to re-categorize something than it is to re-describe it. I don’t want to create 500 different rules for every transaction, I just want to see how my bank described it – which even though it doesn’t look as nice, it’s at least correct.
An example:
Someone would know who “POS 3000 184 ST./3000 184 ST. SOUTHWESTLYNNWOOD 0408 M” but trying to guess from your simplified ” St St” is ridiculous.
Shane, I agree completely!
My credit union posts transactions by the address, so I already know what I’m looking at when I see the addresses (i.e. 10919 Louetta is the HEB, 12405 Gessner is Costco, etc). Mint lists everything as “Transfer” so I have to go back to my bank website to figure out what things are unless I just happened to recognize the dollar amount.
I like Mint, but this part is extremely ANNOYING!!!
Is there an app for mint on the bb storm??
Is it possible to manually add accounts that are not currently accessible by MINT.com? I suspect my federal credit union is too small to allow MINT.com to go through their firewall. This makes it more difficult to have a realistic and comprehensive view of my financial picture, as my mortgage is with them as well as my main checking and savings account.
I’ve placed a request for the credit union to be added, but in the meantime it would be useful to have the possibility to add manually other accounts.
Thanks,
Do you plan on having support for Tradeking in the future. I wish i could link my accounts there in.
Great site the Mint.com people have made for us, thanks a ton, it is appreciated. I love the new features you’ve added for budgeting.
one of my citibanks accounts is only pulling in data back to Jule 2009 while my other Citibank account is pulling in more that two years of data. Anyone know why? I would like to see at least a full year of data in both accounts.
Am I missing something or is there no way to sort transactions by date? I don’t want to see 1K+ transaction, when all I want is last week’s transactions. And am I also able to sort by category?
Newbie…
How do I get Mint to read a Bank of America Line of Credit?
Mine is not showing up.
I would also like to know how to add a BoA line of credit — mine’s not showing up either.
I had the B of Amer credit card problem. I looked in the forum…here is the URL. The guy describes how to fix it. If you don’t live in WA you’ll need to use the appropriate B of A #.
http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=9458
You basically need to get an additional Online ID that accesses your credit card alone. And you still keep the same online id you use that shows both your checking and savings AND your credit card.
Can I add account information manually? For instance my work based profit sharing and 401(k) and and acct with a money manager. I would like to update them on a quarterly basis but I can not because there is not an option to add accts manually. I also like to create a cash acct so that I can categorize my day-to-day cash flow
It seems like the site/program is geared primarily for single people…is there a way my husband and I can look at what we have combined and seperately?
We just posted the shared accounts on here. Our one Visa card is a joint card, our one checking/savings account and our mortgage account. The problem occurs if you are trying to split the expenses. There does not seem to be a good way to do that on Mint or any other service.
We’ve had some luck tagging expenses with his and hers to more easily distinguish who’s spending what portion of the budget in certain categories.
I would LOVE to see some reporting capability where I can manipulate the data a bit. For instance, I have seen a lot of posts from people who share expenses and assets (like my sweetie and I).
A reporting functionality where you can deduct 50% (or a variable percentage) of an account would be killer. It solves the problem of shared accounts and still lets you see the activities.
Another take on the splitting expenses thing would be to have customizable rules for assigning expense categories.
For example:
If account is (our visa) put xx% to (reimbursed by xx) and remainder to (the category normally assigned that vendor).
There are several questions about this but Mint.com does not seam to respond to this question:
Is there a way to add a mortgage account info? Currently, my Bank of America shows Checking, Savings, but the mortgage account it’s not being pulled into Mint. Is there anything I can do to make this happen? I tried to add the account again to see if Mint would pick up the loan info but didn’t work. Please advise. thanks
Is there a way to manually input what you spend on cash transactions? For example, if you pay cash at McDonalds is there a way to put this in as a transaction so it can be included in your dining out or resteraunt transaction?
Mint has a feature called Split which allows you to split a single transaction into multiple transactions, each able to be named and categorized. While we don’t support adding cash transactions, the same result can usually be achieved by splitting any cash withdrawals from your bank. For example, if you withdraw $100 at the ATM, spend $60 on dinner, $20 on a movie, and $20 on parking, you can later find your ATM withdrawal in Mint.com, and split it into 3 transactions. We automatically split out the ATM fee for you.
We still use checks, believe it or not. Can any of these be categorized automatically? Or can you pull up the check image to be able to categorize it thus?
Nice app!
Does anyone know how to print the overview page? Every time I try to print, all I get is 11 pages of junk!
How do I total amount in my tags?
i see where your website and other responses/faqs refer to a “split” function so i can split my income into various different categories e.g., savings, 401, taxes etc, but there are no instructions as far as i can tell. your help sections could use some work. where is the split?????
amy
Great program. But: 2 features that are sorely needed:
(1) Export a csv spreadsheet with much more information:
— show all categories and subcategories
— show month-by-month
These levels of details could be checkboxes that people could select if they want them. It should be easy to automate this, but at present the only way to get the info is to hand-type it from mint into a spreadsheet.
(2) Hand-add items that are not in any of our accounts that you monitor.
Thanks!
Just when I thought I was going to have to drop mint, It finally works with Virtual Wallet. Thank you.
I would like to have the ability to delete CATEGORIES that I do not want or use. I can add new ones but can’t delete the standard ones that I don’t use or want. This is a major flaw in the program in my opinion. Otherwise, I love Mint.
@Plynn and Paul—-try putting or adding the name of the bank manually(meaning type it) where your mortgage is,then click add then click on the home finance .’hope this helps.
I love Mint. It has been a HUGE help in managing all my check and savings accounts, credit cards and mortgages. The more I add, the more accurate the overview is. I love the new features. I have been using mint for about a year, now and it has saved me a huge amount of time (and money).
I love the export feature. This is a huge time-saver. My only request is to have the ability to limit the time period from: date to date. Currently, I need to export all X number of transactions and then delete the old to avoid duplication. Then I import the records into my favorite program in order to have more control over the data.
Being that this is a free service, I am always worried that some of this data may disappear someday. So, I continue the export on a regular basis, just in case…
Thank you, Mint!
Where is the export feature you talk about? I’ve been looking for it but can’t see it.
I would love to see a option to enter your bills into a calendar to keep track of when things are due and when dates are upcoming.
And even beyond that…I wish Mint would function more like a checking register. I want to be able to enter transactions I know are going to be coming up in to the register to see how that affects my balances. I use MS Money now and am trying to migrate to Mint.com, but no being able to enter upcoming transactions is a “deal breaker ladies”. By entering upcoming transaction ahead of time, I know where I need to have money transferred from and to.
Can I download the expense transactions from Mint to excel?
Is there a way to mark a transaction as “accepted”? I’d like to compare my debit card receipts with the ones downloaded from my bank and check them off as “accepted” or “OK”. Then, when I log on a few days later to repeat the process, I’d like to clearly distinguish which ones I’ve already marked and which ones are new. Is there a way yo do this?
In Transactions, there was an icon named “Rules”. I never knew how to use it. No matter what line item I highlighted, Rules started with “Services”. I assume Rules is meant to consistently rename a category when it comes in from a credit card or bank, so that I do not have to continually rename that category each month? I think the most important part of your service would be to get the categories right or what’s the value of the service? And if you don’t get it right, that’s fine. But you should provide more information and tools to your users so that they can. A “Rules” icon with no information or instructions that disappears is not a good start.
When will we be able to upload historical Quicken Data?
Is Mint.com ever planning on fixing the bug where budgets for ATM withdraws never indicate any money as been withdrawn ($0 of x). I’ve been using Mint about as long as it has existed and have contacted technical support on at least three occasions with nothing to show for it. This is where a lot of people lose track of their spending and would be very helpful to know.
can you program it so that you can go back and correct for past months infrequent expenses under budgets? thanks.
I’m a newbie to Mint- comfortable with Quicken functionalites- any way to manage investment portfolio on Mint – being abel to taga nd generate reports by asset type or grouping?
For budgeting, would love to have the ability to have my paycheck entered on a biweekly basis. Right now, monthly is the only option offered.
Love the app – but I have a question. I get paid once a month, at the end of the month. This month, for example, we were paid October 30th. For budgeting purposes, this is when my month starts, not November 1. I know that I had expenses on 10/31 that I’d like to account for in this budget, but November shows empty (including my paycheck).
Ideas?
are the pie charts gone?
Why isn’t there a payment calendar where I can enter the date that a bill is due with an alert system that would remind me to pay the bill? Why not just have a “due date” entry box in the details of the “planning” area?? This function is somewhat there for irregular payments where you enter the frequency of the payment and then the month it is due. I would think this is something that is not only simple to program, but also essential to a basic budget. Come on guys, get with the program. You have a great start on something that could be even better – but why ignore a fundamental part of regular budgeting. Also, I know I’m not the only user with this comment as I have seen it posted many times before. Let’s get on this one!!!!
I’m a one-person business, and I have one complaint: Mint does a great job of tracking expenses in great detail but does not offer any of the same tools for income! I can’t even track my income by month or year the way I can expenses. Since I’m a freelancer and my income can be very irregular, it would actually be more helpful to see how my income is tracking over time than my spending!
How hard would it be to add that capability to what you already have??
Still waiting on the ability to enter upcoming transactions and/or checks that have not posted yet. Can’t have an accurate picture of your account balances if you have a few or several hundreds of dollars worth of checks hanging out there that you have to manually account for in another program.
I agree that “Planning” should include upcoming bills that Mint deduces from our transaction history like Quicken does with the ability to remove the ones that are bogus. We should also be able to enter upcoming bills manually. This way we can truly “Plan” and forecast our money left over.
What a better way to save than to see that you have some extra money ’til pay day that you can transfer to savings.
ily mint.com!
WE WANT FREE MINT IN UK PLEASE!
why can’t I change my alerts. I click on that feature and nothing happens.
