New iPhone app! Passcode, Editing, and More!

Many of us at Mint are iPhone users so we’re as excited about our new iPhone app as we hope you’ll be. Keeping things simple is especially important on a mobile device so rather than cram in 100s of new features just to tick the boxes, we focused instead on delivering the most requested features from you, our users.

Enhanced Security

iphone-5

While you could always lock your device with the device passcode, we heard from users that wanted to specifically safeguard the Mint.com app with its own four-digit passcode. Now you can. Hand your phone to someone else and they’ll be locked out of the app. And if someone tries to hack it, after five attempts, we’ll reset your account and delete all of your personal information. If your phone is lost, stolen or misplaced, you can deactivate iPhone access.

Editable Transactions

edit

We’re continuing to improve the Mint.com iPhone app to make it even more useful while you are on the go. You can now edit essential transaction details such as category, tag, description, note and date.

Real-time Notifications

iphone-3

The Mint.com iPhone app now takes full advantage of the notification technology in iPhone OS 3.0. In addition to getting notifications via email or SMS, you can now have them “pushed” directly to your device. It’s faster and it saves you money. Notifications for when you’ve gone over budget, receive fees or experience other unusual activity are delivered securely, right when they happen.

Update your iPhone app and take advantage of the new features today.

  1. Is this live now, or did you just submit it (ie, it will be another two weeks before we can download it)?

  2. Dustin Sallings

I welcome these changes, but I’m using my iPhone less and my Android phone considerably more.

I’d greatly appreciate either some effort put into making this stuff work on Android, or at least publishing the API specs so that others can.

  3. Looks good – now can you guys get a Palm Pre/Web OS app going with your new Intuit money?? :)

  4. Brilliant update guys. Thanks a bunch!

  5. I hope an Android app is on the way!

  6. Kevin Morris

Does mint.com have any plans to release an app for Android phones anytime in the near future?

  7. Thomas Fleckenstein

Most business people I know use BlackBerry. When will you create an app for us?

  8. Is there a way to edit which notifications are pushed to me?

  9. Are you guys working an app for Android??

  10. Any word on if were ever going to get an Android Application?

  11. That Intuit acquisition is paying off already!

  12. Stephen

    How about a Blackberry app?

  13. Thanks a bunch Mint.com team! This was a long-awaited update, and I’m very pleased with it.

One thing I will point out – the split transaction feature is also much needed “on-the-go”. This is what we use to track cash transactions (as you know), and it would be fantastic help being able to add cash purchases on the go.

Right now, I save my ATM receipt and write down my cash purchases. Once the cash is gone, I go into the website and enter each cash transaction individually.

  14. I’m pretty disappointed that this is the second version of an iPhone app, but there’s still zero versions of the Mint app for BlackBerry…
    Come on, what’s the deal??

  15. Blah… wake me when you make an android application.

  16. Broken record…..Blackberry App…. :-(

  17. Like several others have said — I’m love mint and log in 2-3x weekly, but am disappointed that there is no mint application for blackberry.

  18. Well unlike all the people complaining about a version for their phone, I am very happy with the update. This is the wrong place to be commenting about a version for your phone. Post on the Mint.com support forum if you want to request something.

Thanks for the update. The passcode is long overdue. Many people will be able to take the passcode off their iPhone now. Looking forward to further updates (please don’t kill development of this app to start working on other platforms). Maybe you can add people from Intuit’s development team to build those apps. :)

Looks some of ppl look forward to Android app…..

I would also like to put in a request for an Android app! It would be so nice to access Mint.com from my phone.

  21. I love the new iPhone app and mint.com in general, but please figure out a way to get faster at adding different banks that are supported by your system. Not having my primary checking and savings account supported is a major detriment in using mint.com.

  22. Android app. These phones are coming in a massive wave, so you boys better get cracking.

  23. Minter

Thank you, this app has much improved! Keep up the great work! I love the addition of the passcode feature, and my accounts are now much more accurate. The Mint iPhone is my #1 must have app.

  24. kristy

need to allow us to edit the category while it’s still pending (and fresh in our head).
need to allow us to put in a transaction and match it when it comes through on the software.

    • Elaine

I second this. I would like to be able to use it as a check register that updates as the information posts to my checking account. Right now, I have to use two programs and do twice the work!

  25. I love this iphone app! Being able to edit transactions is awesome. I can’t wait till we can split the transactions. Thanks for keeping me mobile and on top of my finances. Mint.com rocks!

  26. It took this long for just a passcode, new graphics, push notification and editable transactions…
Though the update is better than the 1.0 version there is still alot of work to do guys. Charts would be nice (using landscape mode), ability to search transactions, maybe to even add an account.

  27. Android please.

  28. Here’s an echo of the above requests: Android app please!

  29. Android, Android, Android – PLEASE!!!!! (Ex-iPhone user here.)

  30. Blackberry please.

  31. Love the editable transactions but would really like to see splits. Also, for brokerage accounts I would rather see “movers & shakers” like you see in the mint.com overview. Question: If I categorize a transaction from company x will it keep categorizing it the same in the future or always stick with the default?

  32. iPhone? Who cares. Put out an app for the Pre already!

  33. I’m a huge Mint fan, have been from day 1. You guys need to release an Android app!!!

  34. I know it’s already been said, but I’d love to see this as an Android app!

  35. Dhiraj

Why does passcode reset after I log out?

that means if I log out , I loose 4 digit security code which needs to be set again on next login attempt. thats too much work

Just Allow to choose one time passcode so I dont have to worry about setting it even if i log out

  36. Still waiting for the Android app!

  37. What’s an Android? lol better switch to iPhone

  38. Another vote for Android, please!

  39. After having used the app on hte iPhone for a bit now, I can say it’s a tremendous improvement over the previous version — Thank you!

The ability to edit expenses (pick categories, etc.) would be really useful, though, if you could actually do splits. I can’t remember the last time I went to WalMart or Target and didn’t have to go back after the fact to do a split in Mint.

  40. Hey! What about WinMo devices! Do I have the only one?

  41. Brandon

A Palm Pre/WebOS app would be greatly appreciated.

  42. Another vote/request for an Android version!

  43. I know…wrong place to whine, but Blackberry plz??

  44. Love it! Love Mint.com. Love that you continually update the iPhone app. Keep it coming. Agree it would be nice to edit splits on the iPhone as well as edit push notifications.

  45. You guys HAVE to get a Blackberry up and running!!!!!

  46. What about blackberry app?!?!

  47. Jeremy B

I want an app for blackberries! I love my tour and all my friends have them!

  48. another vote for Blackberry.

  49. mint’s website is better than pageonce, but pageonce’s iphone app kills.

  50. I just entered a lot of my information and it worked so beautifully. I have never even tried to develop a budget and this app is making it so easy and useful. Thanks.
